- Various causes of the insufficient and inefficient facilities presently
available motivated our team of scientists and engineers to design an
inexpensive toilet/urinal based on scientific and technological
principals.

CABIN FOR SINGLE USER
AT A TIME
|
|
7
|
- In the toilet developed by us we have taken into account that an
individual takes a mug/bottle of water to the fields to clean up. In
this toilet cabin he will be
doing the same, and does not suffer a cultural
shock of having to use a toilet paper.

- There is a sign of vacant or occupied on the door operated by the inside
latch.
- Glass/Acrylic panes are fixed to the side walls to provide light in the
cabin during day time. For early morning and late night use a low watt
CFL light is provided.
- Shelf inside to place hand bag off the floor; hooks to hang dupatta,
burqa, coat etc.

- An aerator is provided outside the toilet cabin for providing fresh air under pressure
including oxygen through the toilet cabin and into the collection
chamber. The air under pressure enters the collection chamber and
decomposes shit into water and solids. The air pressure direction
prevents the odour from the excreta from coming into the cabin and
getting into the user’s nostrils.
|
|
15
|
- The air evaporates some of the water in the collection chamber and
carries it through the pipe to the ventilator which has no moving parts
and is placed on the top of the toilet cabin.
- The air pressure prevents the bad smell from entering into the toilet
cabin from the collection chamber.
|
|
16
|
- Since the evaporation is less than the amount of water used for washing
and urine the collection chamber tends to fill up after the use by about
150 to 200 persons and needs to be emptied. The manual cleaning process
takes about half an hour. However this can be speeded up by using a
pump.
|
|
17
|
- Since there are few moving parts (aerator and scraper lever) there is
practically no maintenance required. The operator has to clean the
floor of the cabin
periodically as the users will invariably bring outside dirt in the
cabin with their shoes. The toilet bowl and the anti splash plate also needs to be brushed
for sticky shit from time to time.
|
|
18
|
- To make the cabin free from viruses like FLU,SARS, H51N , Bacteria and
Fungi, the Nano particles coated on the walls release ions over long
period of time which effectively deactivate pathogenic bacteria, Fungi
and Viruses but are harmless for human beings.

- Urine and faeces (shit) collection tank in 16G Mild Steel fitted with bio-digester
arrangement.
- No sewage connection; No Digging for septic tank
|
|
24
|
- TOILET WITH BIODIGESTER
- The faeces (shit) Shit consist of 93% to 95% water and only 5% to 7%
solids, this gets eaten up by the bio digester.
- Urine which is high in Nitrogen and low in phosphorous. The water taken
out will be useful for providing high nutrient irrigation for plants and garden around the
toilet tank.
|
|
25
|
- No water connection required
- No polluting chemicals used
- No need to dig a septic tank (No soil and water source contamination)
- Low energy consumption
- Small foot print (only 1mx2.25m space required).
|
|
26
|
- Such units can be placed all over the city roads and other places
without requiring adjoining space. If good facilities are available in
large numbers it will become unacceptable to have people use walls and
bushes to relieve themselves
|
|
27
|
- Easily Portable The unit can be mounted on a frame with wheels for
moving from place to place This will be particularly useful when
required in larger numbers in a particular area for a few days like
during festivals, events etc.

|
- The attractive kiosk type urinal attracts attention from a distance
announcing availability of a facility with privacy panels in the vicinity. Thus it becomes
unacceptable that men use the walls or tree trunks or bushes to urinate.
|
|
33
|
- Four or two persons can use it in different positions around the kiosk
and thus it is ideal for places of high pedestrian traffic. This is a non
flush type facility and saves nearly a lakh of litres of water every
year.
|
|
34
|
- The urine flows down the urine bowl through an odor sealing siphon
arrangement with an environment friendly oily liquid. As this sealant
flows out in minute quantities along with urine, it needs to be added in
small quantity (about 100ml) to the urine bowl every week to ten days.
|
|
35
|
- If the kiosk is placed over a manhole on the sewer line there is
practically no maintenance other than topping up the odor sealant. There
is no limit to the number of persons that can use it continuously.
|
|
36
|
- The space required for the kiosk is about 1.65m x 1.65m on the ground
with a canopy of 2.1m diameter.
- In case the location does not have a sewage line then the urine is
collected in a 200 litre tank which is sufficient for about 600 to 700
persons after which the collection chamber will fill up and needs to be
emptied.
- The manual emptying process takes about half an hour. However this can
be speeded up by using a pump
|
|
37
|
- To make the urine bowl free from viruses like FLU,SARS, H51N , Bacteria
and Fungi, the Nano particles coated on the urine bowl walls release
ions over long period of time which effectively deactivate pathogenic
bacteria, Fungi and Viruses but are harmless for human beings.
|
|
38
|
- Urine is high in Nitrogen and low in phosphorous. The urine taken out will be
useful for providing high nutrient irrigation for plants and garden around the
toilet tank. Urine is also used for making phosphorus for matches and is
useful in tanning of leather. Small industries can be built around the
use of urine.
|
|
39
|
- The privacy panels have a wide divider which can be used for placing
advertisements and/or fitting a vending machine for condoms, birth
control pills and other personal care items of low value as required by
men from the poorer strata of society.
|
|
40
|
- The revenue
generated can be used for employing one or more persons to keep the
immediate vicinity and the urine bowls clean., It is likely that during
the course of the day some men will spit Paan juice, Phlegm, Paan masala
pouches and other debri in and around the urine bowl. Some urine
driblets will inevitably also fall on the floor below the urine bowl.
All this needs cleaning up.
